The Safety Zone - North Lanarkshire

We give space to groups with a primary focus on young people. We allow young people to safely experience new things and socialise in a friendly environment.

What were the benefits?

The funding increased our footfall to the project with more diverse young people, which brought new challenges. we're constantly learning and evolving. As we build stronger relationships with our young people we develop our communication techniques. We've had an unepected increase in public awareness of our project making it easier to arrange for third parties to come and work with us. This has come from an increase in funding and the positive exposure generated.

We've been able to invest in a more diverse accredited award programme which has generated a 55% increase in accredited awards.

Feedback from young person:

"I heard about The Safety Zone since my brother went all the time. I wanted to get involved because I thought it was really fun and some of my school friends were going here too. I thought the project would allow playing games in the hall and just hanging out with other people, so it’d be a way to make new friends.

I've helped to sew a dress, volunteer to help out with the younger group and I've learned to bake. I think the Safety Zone is a really good place for developing new skills. I intend to continue helping out by taking care of the younger children and keep on baking. I'll probably try to develop more skills during high school I've made a couple of new friends and developed my childcare skills."
